Three alleged arms couriers were apprehended by NDLEA operations in Zamfara State while they were trying to transport live ammunition to bandits in the area.
The suspects were arrested on Tuesday by the agency during a stop-and-search operation in the Tsafe Local Government Area of the State.
NDLEA identified the suspects as Adamu Tijani, 35, Yunusa Yakubu, 17, and Tijani Ismail, 40.
An NDLEA official, who was part of the operation, informed DAILY POST that the suspects were found with 80 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition discovered in a ‘bagco’ sac behind the driver’s seat.
NDLEA stated that one of the suspects, Tijani, who is the driver of the vehicle, confessed that the sac was given to him by an unamed Nigerian soldier at the Ilelah border, Sokoto State, while returning from the Niger Republic.
Tijani said he was to deliver the sac, which the soldier told him contained broken tiles, at Ankpa, Kogi State, to either one Chazzy Baba or Baba Kata.
“The other two suspects are motor boys to Adamu Tijani,” the NDLEA official said, adding that the suspects will be transferred to Department of State Services, DSS, for further investigation.
