A woman identified as Tehila Shadrach has escaped an attempt by a suspected kidnapper to whisk her away at a fuel station along Airport Road in Abuja.

Officers from Wuye Divisional Police Station, Abuja, were called to the scene of the incident which occured over the weekend, as a mob was already gathering to lynch the suspect now in custody.

According to a source, who witnessed the incident, Ms Shadrach, in the company of her brother, were still within the filling station as her brother alighted from the car they drove to make payment for the fuel he purchased through transfer.

Unknown to them, the alleged kidnapper was monitoring his movement and upon noticing that the victim was left alone in the car, he launched an attack on her, believing that her brother was not paying attention.

Shadrach therefore raised an alarm which drew the attention of people within, who came to her rescue and could have lynched the suspect but for the intervention of the police officers.

The unidentified suspect, who was arrested at the scene was interrogated and confessed that he attempted to steal the car and kidnap the lady as well.

The incident which is another pointer to rising insecurity, indicates that a high threat of kidnapping still exists despite only a few reported cases in recent times.
