UCL: Guardiola names Man City’s best player during defeat to Real Madrid

Goalie Ederson was chosen the best player by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola following Tuesday’s 3-2 loss to Real Madrid in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League playoffs.

DAILY POST reports that Guardiola watched as Real Madrid came from behind twice to beat City at the Etihad Stadium.

Erling Haaland put the hosts in front before Kylian Mbappe equalized for Real Madrid.

Haaland then scored his second goal from the penalty spot to restore City’s lead, but Carlo Ancelotti’s side levelled again through Brahim Diaz in the 86th minute.

Attacking midfielder Jude Bellingham then scored Madrid’s winner from close range in the second minute of injury time to give the visitors a first-leg advantage.

“It’s the fourth time we played in a row against Madrid here, and in the three previous games we were much, much better than them, but today was tight, and in certain times they had chances, and Ederson was our best player,” Guardiola said at his post-match interview.

“Sometimes it happens that a team is better and the result doesn’t work.”

Guardiola will now hope Man City will turn things around when they face Real Madrid in the return leg next week at the Santiago Bernabeu.
