A church has been blocked by the Nigeria Police Command in Lagos State due to the suspected murder of Adedamola Ogunbode, a graduate of Lagos State University, or LASU.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the command spokesperson, confirmed the development on Monday while speaking to journalists at the command headquarters in Ikeja.

Hundeyin stated that the church, where some persons alleged that the missing Ogunbode, 28, was killed and buried, had been sealed to prevent it from being set on fire.

He said, “The church was sealed following intelligence reports that some people planned to burn it down out of vengeance, and we don’t want that to happen.

“It is still a suspected crime scene. We still need to go over it, and we may need to revisit the scene multiple times to gather evidence.”

Hundeyin also stated that a public update would be provided as the investigation progresses.

According to him, three suspects have been arrested and detained so far as investigations continue.

Six hunters and community leaders have been taken into custody by Ifo police division operations for allegedly attacking and murdering cow herds owned by a herder named Usman Abubakar.

The suspects are Taiwo Obasa, Gbolahan Abdullahi, Ojo Musiliu, Okwu Odey, Zomisin Lulu, and Abiodun Shoyoye.

The suspects allegedly attacked the cattle, resulting in four cows being killed, butchered, and distributed among themselves, while two cows were injured and four others went missing.

The police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirming the incident to DAILY POST on Saturday, said the command was alerted by Usman Abubakar, owner of the herds, and that investigations are ongoing.

She said, “The Ogun State Police Command is actively investigating an incident reported on February 28, 2025, involving local community leaders and cattle herders in the Ifo area.

“On February 25, 2025, at approximately 0100 hours, Mr. Usman Abubakar of Olorunsogo Village reported that his herders were moving cattle through Oba Karounwi Village near Ifo when they were confronted by local leaders (Baales) from Oba’s Gidimo and Oba Oseni, accompanied by hunters.

“Despite the herders’ appeals, the group allegedly attacked the cattle, resulting in four cows being killed, butchered, and distributed among the assailants; two cows were injured, and four went missing.”

Odutola noted that upon receiving the report, officers from the Ifo division promptly visited the scene and arrested the suspects.

She disclosed that during interrogation, Obasa and Abdullahi admitted witnessing the attack and receiving meat from a hunter named Terry, which has been recovered.

Odutola stated that the implicated Baales had earlier reported a case of assault by the herders at the Agbado division, adding that, sensing duplicity in the case, the matter will be investigated by the Ifo divisional police officer.

To prevent ethnic tensions, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has directed measures to ensure peaceful coexistence.

Ogunlowo also urged all parties involved and the general public to remain calm and refrain from actions that could escalate tensions, adding that the police command is committed to conducting a thorough and impartial investigation to ensure justice is served.

Laide in a now viral post on her Instagram page on Sunday, accused the police of brutality.

The Yoruba actress explained that the incident happened on Saturday along the Ikorodu Expressway.

“For the first time, I experienced the brutal way Nigerians are being treated along that axis.

“I cannot imagine how someone with a brain and sanity will drive someone’s car away with a minor in it.

“A lot is happening in this country that needs to be attended to. My daughter was left terrified because of the incident.

“The police targeted only big cars and vulnerable people to exploit and rob. Just because they needed our ATM card to take out N70,000,” she alleged.
