The Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, DSTRC, has called to the Federal and Delta State Governments to promptly begin the rehabilitation of the Okuama community that was demolished in the aftermath of the killing of 17 soldiers in March this year.
The royal fathers, in a four-point communique issued at the end of a meeting in Asaba, also implored the newly elected Local Government Council chairmen to embark on people-oriented projects.
The Chairman of DSTRC and Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, Major–General Felix Mujakpuero Rtd, Orhue 1, who presented the communique, said “The reconstruction of Okuama Community will alleviate the sufferings of the people and facilitate the early return of the displaced residents to their ancestral home.
‘’We want to specifically thank the leadership of the Ukoko Irie Urhobo led by its Chairman and Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom who recently visited Okuama Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, camp at Okuama community and presented several food items to the embattled people. This gesture will go a long way to alleviate their suffering. It will also be a great relief to the people particularly in meeting their daily basic needs.
“We congratulate the newly elected Council Chairmen on their electoral victory. We urge them to embark on meaningful development projects in their various council areas to justify the confidence reposed in them by the electorate.
