At least one person is feared dead in the heavy downpour that fell through Friday morning, flooding communities and estates across the Federal Capital Territory.

The heavy rainfall once again submerged parts of the popular Trademore Estate, with property worth hundreds of millions naira damaged in the process.

The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, told journalists in Abuja that a Peugeot 406 driver with a registration number, YLA 681 FS, was drowned in the flood and is still missing at Imo Street of the Estate while 4 other persons were rescued and in stable condition.

Video images captured by residents of the estate show some buildings completely submerged, with some residents seen during the downpour, trying to save their lives and salvage their properties after their houses were submerged by the flood.

Trademore Estate has over the years suffered from series of devastating flooding with lives and properties worth billions of naira lost.

Occupants of the estate, however, heaved a sigh of relief during the 2022 rainy season as they were not affected by flood despite the heavy amount of rainfall that year.

Some first responders seen at the estate include NEMA, Fire Service, FCT Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, Red Cross, as well as officials of the flood department of the Federal Ministry of Environment.
