The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) today, Friday, officially launched the 2023 Elections Human Rights Situation Room.
The Executive Secretary of the NHRC, Chief Tony Ojukwu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, said by launching the Situation Room, the Commission is set to take advantage of its wide reach in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory to monitor the 2023 general election from the presidential, national assembly, governorship and state assembly elections.
He said the Situation Room will be active before, during and after the elections, adding that the Room has been active since Thursday.
According to him, the Commission would monitor all activities that would affect Human Rights with regards to access to the polling centres by security and law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders.
He gave out toll-free number with which the general public can report cases of Human Rights abuses, including obstruction of access to vote centres and be voted for as well as gender based violence among other infractions.
