The Mothers And Marginalised Advocacy Centre, MAMA Centre has been selected as one of the recipients of Vitamin Angels 2021 grant.
Making this known today in a statement, the Executive Director, MAMA Centre, Chioma Kanu said, the new grant resonates with MAMA Centre-Vitamin Angels’ efforts to ensure a healthy and productive society for women and children, especially at-risk populations in need which includes pregnant women, new mothers, and children under five.
She said, “under the new grant, MAMA Centre will be working in about 70 Primary Health Care facilities located in five Local Government Areas and wards including Ikeduru, Mbaitoli, Isiala Mbano, Okigwe and Onuimo LGA of Imo state.”
Kanu also said that, in the implementation process, MAMA Centre will be working with some Members of the Federal House of Representatives, State Primary Health Care Development Agency, development partners, medical practitioners, nutritionists, Civil Society and the media.
According to her, “MAMA Centre was established and registered with the Nigeria Corporate Affairs Commission CAC on 5th November 2014 with the registration number CAC/IT/NO73269 as a Non-Governmental, non-profit making, non-partisan organisation with primary mandate to engage government on legislative and policy advocacy to eliminate threats to health, socio-economic and political status of the marginalised groups in Nigeria.
“The organization works to alleviate threats to women’s lives, health and well-being as a result of being overburdened with work and of their lack of power and influence. It raises community/public consciousness on personal and environmental hygiene, maternal and child health as well as Child and Family Health—nutrition, routine immunization, family planning and treatment of childhood killer diseases, while advocating to the policy realms on their roles and responsibilities.”
