Professor Mustapha Akanbi, the Vice Chancellor of the Kwara State University, is dead.
This was confirmed by the Registrar of the university, Kikelomo Salle, in a statement issued in Ilorin on Sunday.
She said Akanbi died on Sunday during a protracted illness.
Salle said: “We urge everyone to remember his immediate and extended family, and the University in prayers in this very trying time.
“Burial arrangement will be announced soon.”
The Ilorin Branch of the Nigeria Bar Association has said that Akanbi will be buried on Monday (today) after the Islamic prayer of Salatul-‘Asr.
The Salatul-‘Asr for today is scheduled for 3:37pm.
A statement late on Sunday by the Publicity Secretary of the Ilorin Branch of the NBA, Ridwan Musa, said Prof. Akanbi, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, would be buried in his home in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, after the prayer.
The statement, titled: “Notice of death,” said: “This is to inform you that our own Prof. Muhammed Mustapha-Akanbi, SAN, died today 20th November, 2022.
“The Janāzah pray will be offered on his remains immediately after Salatul-‘Asr tomorrow at his residence in Ilorin, Kwara State.
“May Allah SWT overlook his shortcomings and grant him AL-Jannah.”
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has described as painful and shocking the death of Akanbi.
This was contained in statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, on Sunday in Ilorin.
The statement said: “We submit to the decree of Allah who gives and takes.
“It is against that backdrop that we mourn the Vice Chancellor who answered Allah’s call tonight.
“He was a true and humble servant of Allah and we beseech our God, the Oft-Forgiving and Merciful, to grant him Al-jannah Firdaus.”
