The incoming national chairman of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, has asked party members and the general public to ignore reports in some sections of the media that he threatened to probe the outgoing National Working Committee, NWC when he resumes in office.
Ayu made the clarification today, Friday, November 26, 2021 in a statement by his media office and made available to African Community News.
The incoming chairman stated that the reports were quoted out of context because, his position was that you cannot talk of probes when he has not seen the books and details of previous transactions and activities of his predecessors.
Details of the statement as follows:
“The attention of the Media Office of the incoming National Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, has been drawn to numerous headlines in today’s dailies.
“They report Dr. Ayu as saying the incoming National Working Committee, NWC of the party will probe past administrations of the party.
“Ayu maintains what he said yesterday during the presentation of the communique to the media at the Legacy House, Abuja, that:
“He has not seen the books of the party or received any handover notes, and so cannot make any authoritative comment on any allegations.
“Dr. Ayu works with facts; not hearsay. And until we see the books, we can’t talk of probing anybody.
“The general public is, therefore, advised to ignore any reports to the contrary.”
