Austin Jay Jay Okocha, a former captain of the Super Eagles, has encouraged the current team to make it to the FIFA World Cup in 2026.
Okocha believes the three-time African champions can defy the odds and seal a spot at the tournament.
Nigeria seemed to give themselves a chance of qualifying with a win in Rwanda but then recorded a disappointing 1-1 draw at home against Zimbabwe.
That result left the Eagles sitting in fourth place in their qualifiers group, six points behind South Africa, who look set to clinch the sole ticket.
Okocha, who represented Nigeria at three World Cups, believes Eric Chelle’s team can win their final four games in the qualifying series.
“If we want to give ourselves any chance of qualifying, we have to be thinking of winning all our remaining matches.
“Of course Bafana Bafana are top in the group; it will be a difficult game to play, but of course we still believe that we can go there and win.
“If we want to qualify, those are the games that we need to win. I believe that we can win there, but it’s definitely not going to be easy,” Okocha said in an interview with iDiski Times.
