Dr. Nasir Sani Gwarzo, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has applauded the Federal Government’s ongoing N-Power training programs across the country as one of the most successful social intervention schemes for youth empowerment in Sub Saharan Africa targeted at the vulnerable youths for social inclusion in national growth and development.
Dr. Gwarzo who made the statement through Mr. Okon Nsikak, Team Lead N-Power National, at the award ceremony of Best Facility Training and Coordination Centres of the N-Build Hospitality Trades for the N-Power Training scheme across the country of the Ministry in collaboration with Council organizations of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHIOTOUR) and the Institute for Tourism Professionals of Nigeria (ITPN) held in Abuja, said Centres that performed well should be encouraged so that more centres will work towards putting in their utmost best in the training schedules of the N-Power Scheme.
While congratulating the three Training Centres for emerging best out of the more than 260 Centres in the country, the Permanent Secretary commended the efforts of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism NIHOTOUR, and the Institute for Tourism Professionals of Nigeria ITPN, for the successes the scheme has recorded particularly in Hospitality Trade training and empowerment of Nigerian youths since the commencement of the scheme in 2016.
In his welcome address at the occasion, Chief Abiodun Odusanwo, National President of the Institute for Tourism Professionals of Nigeria (ITPN), expressed the appreciation of the Institute for the recognition and opportunity offered it for the training which he said is the result of a fruitful partnership midwifed by the Ministry in the form of a public and private sector collaboration to grow hospitality trades and professional practice in the country.
The Director General of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, Nura Sani Kangiwa, who was represented at the occasion by Hajiya Maryam Inuwa, Head of Legal Unit, said the place for professional training and competency tests in the tourism and hospitality trades cannot be over stressed, noting that NIHOTOUR is very glad to be part of the training exercise for youth empowerment in the N-Power training program which is meant to instill practical skills and quality professional conducts on the trainees.
The Three Training Centres that emerged best among the several other training Centres are; The National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism NIHOTOUR, Benin Zonal Campus, Edo State, South South under the leadership of the Coordinator, Bello Marcus; Doris House of Bridal and Vocational Training Centre, Maiduguri, Borno State, North East with Doris Ibrahim Bulama as the Proprietress and Nexus 318 Hospitality Redemption Centre, Ibadan – Oyo state, South West represented by Mr. Olufemi Falebita, and were presented with Certificates of Excellence by Special Guests at the occasion.
