FG Boosts Agile Project With $700m

The Federal Government says it is in the process of boosting its Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment, AGILE, Project with the sum 0f $700 million.

The World Bank-sponsored gender-focused project had an initial seed money of $500 million; an additional $700 million will raise it to a total of $1.2 billion committed to the project, making it one of the biggest gender-focused projects sponsored by the global bank in West Africa.

A statement from the ministry said the move was part of efforts to improve senior secondary education and empowerment opportunities for adolescent girls in their respective domains.

It also noted that 11 state governments have indicated interest to participate in the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment, AGILE, Project, a World Bank-assisted Project of the Federal Government.

So far, the states where the project is being implemented include Borno, Ekiti, Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, Kebbi, and Plateau.

According to the Director, of Senior Secondary Education, Federal Ministry of Education, Hajia Binta Abdulkadir, the government was motivated by the successes recorded in the current implementing states, especially in the utilization of the School Improvement Grants, and Conditional Cash Transfer, CCT/ Scholarship.

AGILE Project’s Task Team Lead, Aisha Garba, while presenting an overview of the project and enlightening the states on the requirements to participate in the project, she emphasized the need for the anticipating states to evolve more enabling policies for senior secondary education in their respective territories.
