A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Onofiok Luke has urged the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun to embark on significant reforms that would strengthen the rule of law and enhance the image of the justice system.

Luke, a former Chairman, House Committee on Judiciary, in a statement issued on Sunday said her appointment was a well-deserved recognition of her outstanding contributions and unwavering commitment to the legal profession in the country.

The former lawmaker expressed optimism that the judiciary would reach new levels of efficiency under Kekere-Ekun.

Luke noted: “My Lord, Hon. Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to you on your appointment as the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
“I am confident that, with Your Lordship’s experience, the Nigerian judiciary will reach new levels of efficiency.
“I have no doubt that you will usher in reforms that will empower the judicial workforce and improve working conditions.

“I am eagerly anticipating the significant reforms during your tenure that will strengthen the rule of law and enhance the image of our justice system.”
Luke added that the recent assent by President Bola Tinubu to the Bill for an upward review of the salaries and emoluments of judicial officers was a milestone that would have an even greater impact under Kekere-Ekun’s leadership.
He was of the opinion that the commitment by the executive underscored the persistent advocacy efforts over the years, including those during his tenure as Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Judiciary.
