Dino Melaye, a former senator from Kogi West, said that the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by acting National Chairman Umar Damagun, had infiltrated the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC).
Melaye made the remark in reaction to the just-concluded governorship election in Edo State.
Posting on X, the former lawmaker said the Edo State governorship election had shown that Damagun would destroy the party.
According to Melaye: “With the destroyer called Damagun on the wheels, PDP is in the departure lounge waiting for the boarding pass.
“Edo experience will be a joke, there are more APC in the NWC than PDP.”
PDP’s governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo lost the Saturday’s election.
Results by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, said the PDP governorship candidate polled 247,274 votes.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta declared Monday Okpebholo of the APC winner of the election after garnering 291,667 votes.
Meanwhile, Melaye had previously accused Damagum of attempting to destroy the former ruling party.
Melaye said the PDP founding fathers like Alex Ekwueme, Solomon Lar, Sunday Awoniyi, Adamu Chiroma, Tony Anenih, and Abubakar Rimi would be turning in their graves over Damagum’s leadership style.
