Former Plateau State governor, Joshua Dariye who was convicted and sent to jail for stealing public funds is set to contest for senate seat under the Labour Party.
Dariye and his Taraba state counterpart, Jolly Nyame were granted pardon three months ago by the Council of State led by President Muhammadu Buhari and were released from prison this week Monday.
He was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for a N1.26 billion fraud but spent about four years in prison before the presidential pardon.
Sources however say that the Plateau State chapter of LP has concluded arrangements to welcome Dariye from Abuja to pick the party’s senatorial form.
One of the sources, a member of the Labour Party, said that the former Plateau State Governor has the capacity to spring surprises at next year’s election because of the love many have for him in the North-Central State, adding that Dariye has also given a boost to the party’s governorship candidate, Patrick Dakum, who defected to the LP, after failing to secure the ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
A former governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi is the presidential candidate of the Labour Party for the 2023 general election.
