News report of a promise by the United Bank for Africa, UBA, to give out a total of N22.5m to its loyal customers during Christmas period, has elicited negative reactions by the bank’s customers who on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, took to social media to attack UBA, for what they termed deceitful promises meant to mislead the public.
The story which was published by a popular Nigerian newspaper was titled ‘UBA Plans Christmas Reward for Customers,’ was published online Tuesday morning.
In the story, UBA was quoted in a statement to have said that the N22.5m would be disbursed in its upcoming Super Savers draw scheduled to hold on December 16, 2022, to commemorate the festive season.
The statement noted that the Super Savers draw aims to appreciate customers who have cultivated a savings culture and stayed loyal to the bank over the years and would also offer fresh opportunities to intending customers to join the growing number of UBA millionaires and lucky winners who have, in the past, benefitted from various promos held by the bank.
But rather than expressing excitement for the advertised reward, many customers and none customers alike, took to social media to lash out at the bank, saying it was always dishing out fake promises and lies to deceive customers and get new ones.
Some respondents even accused UBA of poor services, saying it should channel the so called rewards towards acquiring apps and servers for efficient delivery while others said the bank should rather train it staff, instead of making empty promises.
In his reaction to the story, Abraham Edem said- “Rubbish. I still de battle their rep for email for money where dem just up collect from my account.”
Peter Oba said in his reaction to UBA- “Use that reward money to buy good server for banking and give your staff professional training.”
On his part, Inyang Samuel said- “Stingy bank. Can anything good come from them, except to debit and debit?”
In his reaction, Raoul Allain said- “Just to keep small change there make I no touch am, dem begin touch my money under 24 hours. I still dey for that run till today.”
Yanbiolu Adewole Ibukunoluwa also mocked UBA for promising to dish out Christmas reward for customers, saying- “Yes, #1 to each customer.”
Ingieze Bala said to UBA- “I get account with una since 2004, that’s almost 20 years, still nothing so far.”
De Ray said- “What would be the reward, money or house? Hope it’s not a bag of rice?”
Lumi Oola Zaddy replied UBA, saying- “God forbid. I will rather lavish it than UBA should lavish it for me, bcus dat’s what would end the saving.”
For Machy Machy, UBA’s reward promise was a fluke. He said- “Reward they will still collect from me in the name of maintenance.”
In his reaction, Ruke Alex said- “UBA that is milking me hard earned money every time, always deducting money without alerting you of the reason.”
But Hussein Olarewaju Idris was a bit mild on the bank as he said- “GTB should also do the same.”
