Crisis looms in APC over non-payment of N516m primary election allowances

All is not well at the headquarters of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, located at Blantyre street Wuse 2, Abuja over the failure of the party leadership to pay allowances amounting to N516 million to beneficiaries.

The failure of the party to pay allowances is in spite of the billions of Naira the party got from aspirants who contested for various positions.

According to multiple sources, the allowances are owed to party members who served in both official and adhoc capacities during the congresses and primary elections for the 2023 polls.

Those affected include chairmen and secretaries of special committees among many others.

The APC raked in more than N30 billion from the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms to those who contested for various offices for the 2023 election including presidential, governorship, senate, house of representatives and state assemblies.

One of our sources said that attempt was made by some aggrieved members of the party and others who served in some of the committees last week to organise a protest but the plan was leaked to the leadership of the party which issued string verbal warning against such act.

“After the warning, an aide to the party’s national chairman, Abdullahi Adamu invited some of those fingered in the plot and promised them that the party is making arrangements to pay them,” the source told Nationwide.

The source said that apart from the allowances, other welfare and service issues to workers and utilities at the secretariat of the APC are being neglected.

“There are still plans for action by workers at the headquarters to stage a protest. They are wondering what has happened to the N30 billion generated by the party during the primaries to the point that the system has virtually collapsed, financially,” the source said.
