At least, 15 persons have been arrested in connection with the killing of late Ahmad Usman, a member of a vigilante group, who was lynched at the tipper garage area of Lugbe, last week.

Usman was killed on Saturday, June 4, 2022 when he reportedly got into an argument with a cleric who had gone to seek the release of some suspected criminals detained at the market’s vigilante office.

Eye witnesses claim the deceased had vowed not to release the suspects even if God asked him to. The statement infuriated the cleric who claimed it was blasphemous.

A heated argument ensued which degenerated into an outbreak of violence around the Federal Housing Estate in Lugbe, leading to the murder and setting ablaze of the victim by the enraged mob mobilized by the clergy.

The local security outfit was outnumbered before Ahmad Usman was dragged out and killed right in front of the office and his body set ablaze.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, DSP Josephine Adeh, said the arrest of the suspects followed an ongoing investigations into the unfortunate incident and circumstances that led to the killing of the 30year old Usman.

Adeh in a statement said, “The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Babaji Sunday, has assured that the Command would get to the root of the matter and bring all the perpetrators to book. The CP, while calling for calm, reiterated that justice would be served in the matter.”

The command urged members of the public to remain vigilant, eschew every form of disorderliness and report any suspicious or abnormal occurrence to the police.
