The Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, Christopher Maikalangu, has assured workers that their welfare will remain top of his priority.
Maikalangu gave the assurance while receiving the Administrative Secretary, Area Councils Service Commission, Mohammed Loko Musa, on Wednesday in Abuja.
The chairman, who noted that his administration would operate an open door policy, stressed that his aim is to improve productivity.
According to Maikalangu, “since we came on board despite the dwindling federal allocations, we have done our best towards ensuring that workers salaries are paid as when due in spite of the continuous shortfall in our statutory revenues.
“We will continue to ensure that workers welfare is our number one priority. We have taken measures to ensure a total blockage of revenue leakages in the council. New policies are being introduced and more policies will be coming onboard in matter of days.”
He vowed not to allow the Area Council to be a dumping ground for job-seekers but must attract the best who would contribute fresh ideas for socio-economic development of the council in line with its policy of running a transparent and accountable administration.
Maikalangu warned that the council would no longer treat proven acts of corruption with levity nor would it condone lateness to work, truancy and absenteeism.
He charged all Heads of department to ensure that all hands are on deck for effective service delivery.
