The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria’s flagship airline, Air Peace, Bar. Allen Onyema has said he is happy and excited on the 1-0 victory of Nigeria’s Super Eagles over their Egyptian counterparts, the Pharaohs, in Tuesday night’s encounter in the ongoing African Cup of Nations, AFCON, competition taking place in Cameroon.
Onyema who is the leader of a special delegation of the Federal Government to provide support for the Nigerian government and the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development towards victory of the Eagles, stated this in an exclusive chat with African Community News after the match.
He said- “I am excited. We won the match. Though it was a tough one but the Eagles made us proud. The boys are committed and we hope for better outings in subsequent encounters.”
The Air Peace boss who is fast becoming the major rallying point for sports in Nigeria especially football, commended coach Augustine Eguavon, the Ministry for Sports and Youth Development, Sunday Dare and other officials of the federal government for the efforts put in place for Nigeria’s victory over Egypt.
Nigeria defeated Egypt in the encounter through a goal scored by Kelechi Ihenacho.
The game, played at the Stade Roumdé Adjia in the Cameroonian town of Garoua, was Nigeria’s opening Group D game of the rescheduled 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.
Led by technical director Austin Eguaveon, the Super Eagles put up a fine performance against the Pharaohs in their fourth campaign for the continental title.
Moses Simon, Wilfred Ndidi, Samuel Chukwueze, Joe Aribo and William Troost-Ekong all starred in the encounter.
Nigeria dominated the game throughout, and just on the half-hour mark, Iheanacho trapped down a superb pass in the box and fired into the top corner.
