Key defender Cédric Hountondji will not play for the Benin Republic’s Cheetahs in their forthcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Nigeria and Libya.
Hountondji has been sidelined with a hamstring injury for around one month.
The centre-back sustained the injury during preparation for Benin Republic’s matchday three encounter against Rwanda in Kigali.
His absence will be a big blow for Benin Republic, who are hoping to secure a place at the AFCON for the first time since the 2019 edition hosted by Egypt.
The Cheetahs currently occupy second position in Group D with six points from six games.
Gernot Rohr’s side will host Nigeria at their makeshift home ground, Felix Houphet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan next week Thursday.
They will be away to Libya four days later.
