Years after the seeming abandonment of the Federal Capital Territory University of Technology, Abaji, the FCT Administration through its Education Secretariat, said it is geared to kick off operations at the institution.
According to the new Mandate Secretary of Education Secretariat, Dr Danlami Hayyo, the university, when fully operational, will help decongest the FCT College of Education Zuba.
Hayyo, who stated this during the inauguration of Standing Committee for the FCT College of Education, said the administration may also consider the establishment of another tertiary institution to help improve access to tertiary education for residents.
According to him, “One of President Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda is education and this, we in FCTA Education Secretariat through the intervention of our Minister, Barr Nyesom Wike will prioritize.
“We have to create another tertiary education in the nation’s capital to decongest the population in the FCT College of Education Zuba.
“The establishment of the FCT University of Technology will help to reduce the population and if possible we will even establish Polytechnic to accommodate the large number of youth to study their primary, secondary and tertiary institutions in the nation’s capital.”
The Secretary also pledged to ensure improved funding for infrastructure development as well as capacity building for staff of the institution.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Provost of FCT College of Education, Zuba, Dr. Sule Mundi, noted that the college has contributed tremendously to the development of the country.
In his words, “Many of our colleagues, here in the FCT College of Education have used a sum total of your wisdom, experiences, kindness, discipline and compassion to mentor our students and achieve our goal that states that each generation has a responsibility to the next generation.
“Therefore, today, we are meeting to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of our nominees, applaud their contributions, and be inspired by their dedication and resolve towards their passion. It’s not every day that one gets to be paraded around and recognized for their hard work and achievements. Whether we’re honoring individuals who have contributed significantly to their professions as teachers, or who have made outstanding contributions to their various units, these awards are a testament to the fact that a united commitment to excellence and determination can lead to success at the highest level.
“Today’s ceremony also marks a special occasion for all of us, as it gives us an opportunity to inaugurate our newly elected Deans of schools, appoint qualify staff members into various positions as Heads of Department, Directors and coordinators of units and programmes”.
