NYSC swears-in 658 corps members in Katisna

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has sworn-in 658 corps members deployed to Katsina State.

Declaring the three weeks orientation camp open, Governor Aminu Bello Masari who was represented by his Special Adviser on Drugs, Narcotics and Human Trafficking, Hamza Mohammed, urged youth corps members to imbibe the virtues of equity, fairness and healthy competition, non-violence, good governance, positive leadership and tolerance during their service and beyond.

He noted that the NYSC scheme has helped in pushing forward the frontiers of national development which he described as the hallmark of the present democratic administration.

“In this regard, the participation of corps members in the nation’s head-count exercise, voter registration and sundry national programmes are well worthy of praise,” the Governor said.

He said that, in line with the determination of government to enhance fortunes of the youth, and consolidate on their contributions to national development, that concerted efforts were on to strengthen entrepreneurship development schemes targeted at the economic empowerment of the youth.

“The unfolding reforms in the energy sector, transportation, education will create opportunities for self-fulfilment for the youth.

“As you start your national service today, I enjoin you to exhibit the highest level of loyalty, dedication, discipline and commitment to the nation,” Masari said.

Earlier in her remarks, the Katisna State NYSC Coordinator, Hajiya Aisha Muhammad said that a total of 658 corps members, comprising of 355 male and 303 female had been registered.

“Since their arrival at the camp, these young graduates have shown remarkable interest in camp activities and have exhibited high level of discipline.

“I therefore have no doubt in my mind that as the orientation course progresses these young Nigerian youths will become more amiable to discipline and readily available for national service.

“I therefore urge my dear prospective corps members to ensure that they participate actively in all the orientation course programmes.

“Moreso, I implore you to sustain the high level of discipline which you have demonstrated so far and ensure that you act in conformity with the camp rules and regulations,” she said.

The Chief Judge of Katsina State, Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar, administered the national pledge and the NYSC oath of allegiance on the corps members.
