Indications have emerged from diplomatic sources that Nigeria has sent strong worded letter to the governmentovernment of Benin Republic, explaining the reasons why it is demanding the extradition of Yoruba separatist leader, Sunday Igboho.
Igboho was declared wanted by Nigeria for campaigning for a separate nation out of Nigeria. He ran away to Benin Republic seeking to go to Germany from there but security operatives from Nigeria arrested him in that country.
Igboho was taken to court in the country today, Monday as authorities there said he would rather face extradition charges rather than hand him over to Nigeria has was the case of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
According to sources, Nigeria is pursuing its case against Igboho through the offices of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and that of JUstice/Attorney General of the Federation.
Nigeria is said to have outlined reasons for its extradition demand to include:
Evidence of secessionist agitation by Igboho. He made the secessionist declaration and organised rallies.
Engagement in violent activities by arrogating the powers of a law enforcement agency to himself.
Establishment of a militia group that caused the death of some innocent citizens.
Gun running as discovered by the DSS in his house.
Both the Nigeria Police Force and the DSS have declared him wanted in respect of some criminal allegations.
Refusal to obey summons by Nigeria’s law enforcement agencies only for him to escape to the Benin Republic to hide.
Igboho’s activities are inimical to the mandate of the Multinational Joint Task Force, MNJTF.
