Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium: Contractor promises completion of renovation work by end of September

With the 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season likely to kick-start in September 2022, fresh hopes of 7-time league winner, Rangers International Football Club prosecuting their home games in their traditional ground is growing by the day as Reforms Sports West Africa Limited, the contractor in-charge of the ongoing renovation and rehabilitation works at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium has reiterated their commitment towards completion of the project.

In an exclusive chat with power sports correspondent today, Ugo Okeiyi, Chief Executive Office (C.E.O) of the construction firm, Mike Adamu hinted that they are back in town and promised that Enugu Rangers would prosecute their home games this season at the “cathedral”.

While explaining the reason behind the delay, Adamu said that they encountered several challenges at the seaport.

He however thank the government and people of Enugu State, fans, soccer and sports enthusiasts for their patience and understanding, promising that the stadium would be completed in a month time.

On his part, the Commissioner, Enugu State Ministry of Youth and Sports, Hon. Manfred Nzekwe further reaffirm that that the renovation works ongoing at the stadium remains tops on the to-do list of the state government, adding that the governor has vowed to complete the project before leaving office.

Currently, Reforms Sports West Africa Limited which specializes in sports construction are saddled with the responsibility of regressing the Adokieye Amasiemeke Stadium which will be used by the 2021/2022 NPFL Champions, Rivers United for their home games in the forth coming Confederation Africa Football (CAF) Champions League competition.

Similarly, the construction firm is also handled the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, University of Nigeria Enugu Stadium (UNEC) and the Rangers Camp, Liberty Estate which has lasted close to 13 years, they are also in charge of the Nassarawa Stadium in Lafia.

Interestingly, the installation of the artificial turfs on the Adeleke University Stadium (Osun State), Dan Anyiam Stadium (Owerri), Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium (Bauchi)and the Akure Township Stadium were carried out by the company.

Meanwhile, the renovation and reconstruction works ongoing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu is 80% completion with just the laying of the grass left.
