Suspected herdsmen attack Benue communities, kill six, machete others

Not fewer than six persons have been killed after gunmen suspected to be herdsmen attacked communities in Tombo ward, Logo Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue state, killing six persons and injuring many others.

Our correspondent gathered that the incident occured at about 9pm on Wednesday, at Tse Ngojov and Tse Valem Yaweh of Mbagum community in Tombo council ward.

Special Adviser to Governor Samuel Ortom on Security, Lt. Col. Paul Hemba, who confirmed the incident, described the incident as sad saying Governor Samuel Ortom has directed him to move the wounded persons to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, BSUTH, in Makurdi, for treatments and to also make arrangements to bury the dead.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Logo LGA, Mrs. Salome Tor has also confirmed the killings saying, “six people were killed, 12 people were badly injured while corpses of deceased persons have been deposited at the Primary Health Care Center in Ayilamo.

At the time of filing this report on Thursday afternoon, Mrs Tor said people were running helter-skelter, moving from the hinterlands to the Ayilamo town.

While nothing that the attack was without provocation, the Chairman said “I have reported the matter to the security adviser to the Governor and sent him pictures of those killed including the injured.”
