In what is obviously a positive deviation from the past ugliness, Lagos state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency, LASTMA, to henceforth stop arresting motorists who committed offences.
He said the duty of LASTMA is to manage traffic and to to engage in indiscriminate harassment and intimidation of motorists as is the case with the agency’s officials.
“…Henceforth no LASTMA Officials should arrest any motorist, either commercial or private. The duty of LASTMA is to manage traffic and not to arrest anyone.
“I have heard alot of complaint, any Officials that violated the rule of his work, will be severely dealt with.”
“If at any time LASTMA Officials make attempts to arrest you or forcefully enter your car, don’t argue with them. Just allow the LASTMA to enter your car and call these numbers…” he was quoted as saying and gave the distress numbers as
