First batch of Nigerians in Ukraine arrives Abuja

Nigerian government, on friday, received the first batch of Nigerian from Ukraine.

According to a statement issued in Abuja in the early hours of friday, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, the MaxAirLtd Flight VM602 evacuated Nigerians from Bucharest, Romania and landed in Abuja at about 7:10 AM on friday

The statement reads in parts: “First Batch of Nigerians from Ukraine arrived Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport Abuja at 7:10 am, numbering 416 from Romania, are mostly students who fled Ukraine into Romania amid the ongoing war between Russia and the Eastern European country.

Meanwhile, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the commission wrote, “To God be the glory Max Air Evacuation flight VM602 from Bucharest touched down in Abuja.”

Nigerian airlines, Max Air and Air Peace concluded arrangements to conduct the evacuation flights of Nigerians from Poland, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia.

The two airlines had been contracted by the Nigerian government to carry out the evacuation process.

Stranded Nigerians including hundreds of students studying in Ukraine are currently taking shelter in neighbouring countries in the wake of the outbreak of the Russia-Ukrainian war.
