Rotary Group Launch National Family Planning Media Campaign

As part of efforts educate and enlighten all sexually active Nigerians, Rotary Action Group for Reproductive, Maternal and Child Health (RMCH) has launched a National Family Planning campaign project media training starting tomorrow.

The official launch was held at National Press Centre, Radio House, Abuja Thursday while the virtual media training begins Friday.

Speaking during the launch, Minister of State For Health, Senator Adeleke Mamora said that family planning is an important intervention for promoting well spaced pregnancies and also help women tackle challenging pregnancies.

According to Mamora, “Family planning also promotes maternal and child survival with a potential for reducing maternal and child mortality by 30 percent.”

Commenting on implementation on the project, the Minister said, ” a successful implementation is key to achieving the health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Federal Ministry of Health has been collaborating with development partners to build synergy towards provision of quality family planning information services for the purposes of prevention of unintended pregnancies as well as for the prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV/AIDS”.

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Information and Culture, Dr. Mrs. Adaora Ifeoma Anyanwutaku who was represented by the Head of Child Right Bureau, Mrs Mercy Megwa said the National Family Planning Campaign concerns everybody in the society irrespective of colour, race or tribe.

She said, the campaign objective is aimed to educate and enlighten all sexually active women and men that they can freely access family planning products and services as well as the benefits of using family planning products including its services, where to get the products and how to get them.

Earlier in his opening speech, Prof. Emmanuel Lufadeju who is the National Coordinator Rotary RMCH Nigeria called on journalists to disseminate this information shared as their reports would help contribute to the realization of better, smaller, manageable families for the people of Nigeria, as a result helping Nigeria to harness a demographic transition from its growing population.

The highlight of the launch was the unveiling the media campaign messages
aimed at targeting the entire populace using the multi-media channels like TV, Posters, Fliers, Billboards, Brochures, Audio Messaging, Churches and Mosques as well as Social Media.
