Since the news of the arrest and extradition of the IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to Nigeria, there have been conflicting reports about the exact location where he was nabbed. Recall that when the news was first broke yesterday, different sources reported that Kanu was arrested in the UK, apparently because he was alleged to have escaped to the UK, where he is a citizen, after jumping bail in Nigeria.

Following the report, the British High Commission to Nigeria had to come out and clear the air alleging the Nnamdi Kanu was not arrested in the UK. Again, another report emerged that the IPOB leader was lured with money to the Ethiopian Capital, Addis Ababa, where he was nabbed and extradited to Nigeria. While many are still in doubt about the exact place where the IPOB Leader was arrested, his younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu, has come out to clear the air.

As gathered from Sahara Reporters, Emmanuel Kanu has alleged that his elder brother, Nnamdi Kanu, was unlawfully arrested in Kenya, detained before he was extradited to Nigeria. With this revelation from a family member of the IPOB leader, we hope that the dust raised by the conflicting reports about the exact location of Nnamdi Kanu’s arrest will be settled for good.

Emmanuel Kanu, who made the exact location of his brother’s arrest known to the public, maintained that the IPOB leader had not done anything wrong to warrant being prosecuted. He argued that self-determination is the fundamental right of every individual and that his brother only awoke people’s consciousness about the happenings in the country. He, however, allayed his fear over the possibility of Nnamdi Kanu getting justice in Nigeria.

He concluded by saying that the world is watching to see how the Nigerian government will handle his brother. Recall that the Nigerian government had accused the IPOB leader of treason following his continued agitations for Biafra. He was arrested in 2015 but granted bail in 2017 following the deterioration of his health. However, the IPOB leader jumped bail after the Nigeria Army Operation Python Dance stormed his hometown in Umuahia, Abia state, thus stalling his prosecution by the Nigerian government.
