Four killed, 9 injured in Lagos-Ibadan expressway accident

Four people were declared dead in a single car accident on the Lagos-Ibara motorway on Sunday in the Alapako neighbourhood of Ogunmakin by the Federal Road Safety Corps, or FRSC.

Spokesperson of the Ogun Sector Command, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident to DAILY POST in the late hours of Sunday, saying that the cause of the crash was speed violation and tyre burst, which led to loss of control.

Okpe noted that the crash involved a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number FKJ570YE, which had 13 passengers on transit.

She revealed that while four persons were confirmed dead, nine others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

“FRSC operatives of RS2.29 Ogunmakin Unit Command carried out a rescue operation on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway around Alapako.

“The crash involved a White Toyota Hiace Bus with registration number FKJ570YE

“The bus had a total of 13 passengers on transit, 5 male adults and 8 female adults. 4 persons were recorded dead, 2 male adults and 2 female adults. A total of 9 persons sustained injuries, 3 male adults and 6 female adults,” Okpe said.

She said the injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, and the corpses were deposited at FOS Morgue, Ipara.

Meanwhile, the Sector Commander, Akinwumi Fasakin, urged motorists to give full concentration to driving and also carry out some routine checks on their vehicles to correct some defects.

He further advised motorists to maintain the required speed limits assigned to different categories of vehicles.

He enjoined all fleet operators to ensure the installation of speed limit devices and be safety conscious.
