The state prosecutor’s office reported that the bodies of Franco and the three victims were discovered inside a vehicle.

“We deeply regret the death of our colleague Eduardo Franco, municipal president of Tancanhuitz,” Morena party president Rita Rodriguez wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “We ask authorities to reach the ultimate consequences and find those responsible.”

Mexico has been plagued by violence linked to organized crime, with public officials often targeted. Dozens of local politicians and officials have been victims in recent years.

DAILY POST reported last month, of another shocking incident in southern Guerrero state, where Alejandro Arcos, a newly elected mayor, was decapitated just days after taking office, with his severed head placed atop a pickup truck.

Since the Mexican government deployed the army to combat drug cartels in 2006, over 450,000 people have been murdered, and thousands remain missing, according to official statistics.
