Comrade Chris Isiguzo, the immediate past National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), was praised by the Enugu State Council, the union’s stakeholders, on Sunday for his two consecutive and fruitful terms in office.

This came after the successful conduct of the NUJ triennial delegates conference which was held in Owerri, the Imo State capital last week.

In a statement jointly signed by the stakeholders, they declared that they were very proud to associate with Comrade Isiguzo “because you have made us proud with your performance and elevation of journalism as a respectable profession in Nigeria.”

Some of the signatories included: “Comrade Amaka Agbo, National Vice President Zone C NAWOJ, Comrade Lawrence Njoku, Chairman Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Obinna Ogbuka, Chairman FRCN Enugu Chapel, Comrade Ebele Somaogbu, Chairman Private Broadcast Chapel and Comrade Clinton Umeh, Chairman Online Chapel.

Others were Comrade Fred. Nnaji, Chairman ESBS Chapel, Comrade Stephanie Ada Ude, Secretary Federal Information Chapel, Comrade Chimaroke Ugwu, Chairman NTA Chapel, Comrade Ike Okenyi, Chairman Nsukka Federated Chapel, Comrade Gideon Iwueke, Chairman SWAN, Comrade Ngozi Ngene, Chairperson, NAWOJ Enugu State and Comrade Ifeoma Aka, National Financial Secretary, NAWOJ.

They said the immediate past National President strongly ended his tenure “without any negative report,” adding that his “ebullient but exemplary leadership, dedication, and commitment to the growth and development of our great union and journalism profession have been truly inspiring.”

The statement further reads, “We also commend you for conducting free and fair election at the 8th Triennial National Delegates Conference held in Owerri, Imo State, which ensured a seamless and smooth transition of power to your successor, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya Abdullahi. Your selflessness and loyalty to our union are qualities that we admire and appreciate.

“We have been rating you very highly for your exemplary leadership even when you served the union as the National Vice President Zone C(South East), but the just concluded delegates conference served as a litmus test for the positive legacies you left behind for the union. The outcome of that Owerri election was a huge vote of confidence in your leadership and we are glad to share in that.”

The stakeholders also had great words to the new National President of the union, Comrade Yahaya.

“We offer our hearty congratulations on your assumption of office and wish you a successful tenure.

“As we in the Enugu State Council prepare for our own election and smooth transition of power in February, 2025, we look forward to working with you to advance the interests of our Union.

“Please accept our best wishes for continued success and happiness,” they concluded.
