The owner of the collapsed Ikoyi 21-storey building is among the over 50 people trapped in the huge debris and is feared to be dead.
A video showing a young man crying, saying “My oga is among those trapped. I was taking him to the airport but he decided to branch off here to see the work and the building collapsed. He is there.”
The 21 storey building collapsed this Monday afternoon at Gerald Road Ikoyi, Lagos.
Meanwhile the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA has confirmed the collapse of the 21-storey building under construction at Ikoyi.
Director General, DG Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, in a statement said the emergency response plan has been activated and first responders deployed.
“The agency has activated its emergency response plan to the above incident. All first responders are en route to secure the scene while the heavy-duty equipment and life detection equipment have been dispatched,” he said.
The building caved in around 3pm along Gerrard Road, Ikoyi while the possible cause of collapse is yet to be ascertained.
