Declan Rice, an England and Arsenal player valued at over £100 million, has been called a useless player.
Former Dutch midfielder, Rafael van der Vaart slammed Rice, following England’s poor outing at the Euro 2024 championship which ended on Sunday.
He described the 25-year-old as a ‘useless’ player who is only comfortable making back passes to defenders.
England suffered a 2-1 loss against Spain in the Euro 2024 final at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on Sunday.
Nico Williams put Spain ahead in the 47th minute but Gareth Southgate’s side found their equalizer in the 73rd as Cole Palmer found the back of the net.
Mikel Oyarzabal then scored the winning goal for La Roja in the 86th minute.
Arsenal star, Declan Rice flattered to deceive against Spain.
Rice joined Arsenal from West Ham last summer for a reported initial £100 million fee.
He became the most expensive English player, equalling the previous record held by Jack Grealish.
Reacting angrily to his performance, Van der Vaart suggested the Englishman is not worth £100m.
He said via AFC Ajax: “€100M for Declan Rice. What does he do? He comes to collect a ball only to pass it back to John Stones.
“He is useless. If you are truly worth €100M, then you should be able to play a ball forward.”
