Sanwo-Olu task corps members on nation building

The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has implored corps members deployed to the state to endeavour to contribute their quota toward development in their primary assignments and communities.

Sanyo-Olu said this on Tuesday, at the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch B, Stream 2 orientation course held at NYSC temporary camp, Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos.

He charged them to always maintain the significance of the scheme, being unity in diversity.

” I congratulate you for successfully concluding the first phase of your service year, being the three weeks orientation which featured various activities designed to prepare you for the task ahead.

“You must recognise the significance of this programme, which is fostering national unity; the orientation camp has been a microscopic representation of Lagos State, a melting pot of cultures, languages and traditions.

“As you are deployed to various parts of the state where you will be actively engaged in local projects, address the challenges and contribute to the delivery project, and positive impact to the lives of host communities.

“Having experienced first hand the strength that comes with diversity, I am confident that you will carry this understanding with you to the development of Lagos State and Nigeria at large,” he added.

Gov. Sanwo-Olu was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, Mr Tunde Ogundeko.

Earlier, State Coordinator, NYSC, Lagos State, Mrs Yetunde Baderinwa, enjoined corps members to be of good behaviour and be involved in rewarding activities.

Baderinwa warned against the act of corps members rejecting places of posting for primary assignments.

She said such would no longer be tolerated, encouraging them to accept postings with joy.

“I urge you compatriots in this national service to bring to bear that you are ambassadors of NYSC scheme; you are therefore expected to contribute your quota significantly to the growth of our nation Nigeria.

“You must do everything to ensure that your future is not hampered by today’s behaviour; get involved in activities that will better your life, volunteer for good of the communities,” she said.

The coordinator said that the state government had added value to the corps members deployed to Lagos, applauding Gov. Sanwo-Olu for the gesture.

She said that the corps members, having been properly groomed and fully involved in camp activities, assured would perform well in their service year, as they had imbibed the tenets of the scheme. (NAN)
