A new page is to be opened for the petroleum industry in Nigeria, Africa and the world as the 650,000 barrels per day capacity Dangote Refinery begins operations today, Monday.
Expected to be in Lagos for the opening ceremony are President Muhammadu Buhari, some African and world leaders, state governors, members of the business and diplomatic communities, among others.
The massive oil processing facility has been designed to process crude oil grades from the three continents of Africa, Asia and America.
According to findings, Dangote refinery would deliver a surplus of about 38 million litres of petrol, diesel, kerosene and aviation fuel for Nigeria daily.
The meaning is that the facility has the capacity to meet Nigeria’s fuel supply needs, going forward.
The Refinery is also expected to support the establishment of 26,716 fillings stations, create 100,000 direct and indirect jobs, and provide a $21bn market for Nigerian crude oil annually.
A presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad had earlier Twitter that the Refinery would be a game changer in the entire Nigeria’s fuel supply chain.
“Efforts by the Federal Government to make Nigeria self-sufficient in local refining of crude oil to save the scarce foreign exchange used in the importation of petroleum products have received a boost as the 650,000 barrels per day Dangote Refinery, the world’s largest single-train refinery, is set for inauguration on May 22nd, 2023, by President Muhammadu Buhari.” Bashir twitted.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemical Project, a subsidiary of Dangote Industries Limited is located in Dangote Industries Free Zone, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria.
It is designed to produce Euro-V quality gasoline and diesel, as well as jet fuel and polypropylene.
