In a bid to improve the healthcare delivery of Nigerians, the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire said the federal government had concluded plans to build 36 new model Primary Healthcare Centres, PHC in all states of the country.

He said this in Ile-Ife, Osun State while inaugurating the South West Traditional Leaders’ Committee on Primary Health Care Delivery.

The inauguration which was held at the palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi was attended by top traditional rulers in the South West including the Olubadan of Ibada, Oba Saliu Adetinji.

It was organised by the Federal Ministry of Health in collaboration with National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA.

Ehanire said the new model primary healthcare centers across the country would contain all necessary facilities and competent workers to make them run effectively and efficiently.

He said this would bring quality healthcare services close to the people and that the traditional rulers would decide where the new model primary healthcare centers would be located.

While commending the federal government for the initiative, Oba Ogunwusi urged Ehanire to address the demands of the striking medical doctors.

Also, the Country Representative of the United Nations Children Fund, UNICEF Peter Hawkins, who was represented by Dr Muhammed Okorie, lauded the initiative and urged the federal government to invest more on healthcare delivery.
